TEXAS HOUSE DEMOCRATIC CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
WE ARE ONLY FIVE SEATS FROM TAKING BACK THE TEXAS HOUSE!

The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee is the central vehicle working to elect and re-elect strong Democrats to the Texas House. While there are dozens of Democratic groups and political action committees around the state, the HDCC is the only organization dedicated solely to building and maintaining a Democratic majority in the State House.

In 2006, the HDCC was the most successful Democratic political organization in Texas. Democrats began 2006 outnumbered 87-63 by Republicans in the House and faced the daunting task of re-electing 13 Democrats in Republican-leaning and toss-up districts. By the end of 2006, Democrats had successfully returned every vulnerable incumbent to the House and defeated 6 House Republicans, narrowing their margin to 81-69. By winning Rep. Dan Barrett's special election December and with Rep. Kirk England joining the Democrats our number has grown to 71, which means only 5 seats are needed for a Democratic majority in the State House.

“From early on in the campaign all the way through Election Day, the HDCC was there to give me the support I needed to fight back against the special interests groups that were aligned against me.  With the HDCC’s late-breaking research, timely financial support, and their daily advice, we were able to win and get to work representing the hard working families of San Antonio and Bexar County.”
-- Rep. Joe Farias (HD 118, San Antonio)

Craddick's man not a good bet

AUSTIN — Not too many years ago, Texas Republicans, en route to their legislative majority, repeatedly attacked Democratic legislators for voting for tax bills. It was a favorite tactic of Speaker-to-be Tom Craddick, who as a minority party guerrilla on the House floor never had to worry much about paying for state government. Then the voters put the GOP in charge, and — what do you know — we now have a new business tax and higher cigarette taxes. And our property taxes are still shooting through the roof.
